Because of this, your generator installation process begins with a home visit or virtual site visit with your KOHLER dealer. They’ll help you choose the perfect size generator, the right fuel source, and the best installation locations for your generator and automatic transfer switch.

Virtual Site Visits
A virtual site visit* is a contact-free, digital consultation with your dealer, instead of an in-person meeting inside your home. The virtual site visit allows your dealer to remotely help you choose your perfect generator, accessories, fuel source, and installation location. This meeting can occur through a mobile device, a tablet, a laptop equipped with a webcam, or a phone call accompanied by pictures of your home.

What Goes Into Backup Generator Installation?
First, know that we handle every aspect of installation for you, including all necessary permits. Your KOHLER dealer will coordinate a team of licensed electricians and pipefitters to make sure the job is done right.
Here’s how generator installation works:
1. The electrician will install your transfer switch first.
2. The team will move your generator in place.
3. Electric lines will then be connected from your transfer switch to your generator.
4. Once electricity is hooked up, your pipefitter will make the proper connections from the fuel source to the generator.
5. After electricity and fuel are hooked up, your generator is ready to start and protect your home.
How Much Does it Cost to Install a Generator?
Generator installation costs vary significantly from home to home due to factors that are specific to your property, including:
- Your home’s electrical system
- Fuel source (natural gas or liquid propane) installation
- Automatic transfer switch installation
- Any local permits that may be required
A simple installation can start at $2,000, but costs may be substantially more based on individual situations. Your local dealer will provide a more accurate quote.
